We help stop sexual abuse from happening by teaching about grooming and empowering everyone to protect the innocent instead of the predator, and inspire people to heal and move forward from sexual abuse. I believe everyone should have a happy childhood…at any age.

Dear friend,
What if healing had a structure?
Healing is not linear. But it does have phases. And when survivors move through those phases together, in a structure that honors both the difficulty and the possibility, something shifts.
The T.I.M.E. Program
a supportive framework for trauma recovery
Trauma Interrupted, Mitigated & Expressed
That is what T.I.M.E. is built on.

This week · launching
T.I.M.E. opens its doors.
T.I.M.E. stands for Trauma Interrupted, Mitigated & Expressed. It is a 12-week, peer-led framework for adult survivors of trauma, shame, or abuse. Created and led by Jan Broberg, Austen Tanner, and the Survivor Circle Team.
For three years, we have been listening. The most effective communities for healing have not been built around credentials. They have been built around peers. Alcoholics Anonymous. Al-Anon. Narcotics Anonymous. The long tradition of mutual aid that came before and grew out of them. People with lived experience, sitting in a circle, walking each other through the work.
T.I.M.E. is built inside that lineage, with one important distinction. Trauma is not a disease, and we do not treat it like one. We do not diagnose, label, or rank each other’s pain. T.I.M.E. is its own framework, written by survivors, for survivors.
Each phase meets in a live virtual circle. Between sessions, you have phase-work. A Peer Support Guide walks alongside you, starting in Phase 3.

Alyse Harper
Assistant Community Director, Survivor Circle
Executive Assistant, Jan Broberg Foundation
Hey, hey. I’m Alyse. Born an Okie girl in 1991, I now live in Southern Utah with Jan and her son, my amazing partner, Auzzie. I am the Assistant Community Director and Executive Assistant for JBF. Along with those titles, I also work as a Shelter Monitor in a residential shelter for homeless and displaced teens. Though they can be a handful, as most teens are, the work is very rewarding. For the longest time, I have wanted to work for a non-profit that helps those who need it most. Now, I work for two and couldn’t be happier!
The road to get here hasn’t been easy. From being a late-diagnosed AUDHD woman struggling with alcoholism and addiction for most of my life, to now being sober a little over a year and gradually working through my trauma, life has been a chaotic whirlwind of highs and lows. My mom, Donna, has been my rock and biggest supporter since childhood. She always loved and accepted me as I am. For that, I’ll be forever grateful. I also have two younger brothers, Dillon and Jared, who are way smarter and funnier than me. I love them to pieces and could not ask for better siblings. I may not have been the best big sister growing up, but I was a shining example of what not to do!
On May 3rd, 2025 I finally started my journey to sobriety. In late June I met who is now the love of my life, Auzzie, at a rehab in Orange County. Not long after I met Jan, who I now refer to as Mama Jani. She calls me her Unicorn Moonchild, and I love it. For a short time, I also had the pleasure of helping to care for MaryAnn Broberg before her passing on New Year’s Eve. I may not have gotten to know her before the Alzheimer’s, but the few times I saw her light up and spoke with her brought me much joy. It was obvious how much she truly loved her family. The first time I saw their house and stepped into it, I knew I was home. Not only because it looked like the house I’d always dreamt of as a child, but because of all the love I felt in the house.
I wouldn’t be where I am or the person I am today if it wasn’t for all the love and support from my friends and family throughout my life. For the first time in a long time, I am genuinely hopeful for what the future holds. As we like to say in our household, “The universe is conspiring in our favor,” and “Every day is a bonus.”

Makayla Piers
Newsletter Director and Donor Relations Manager
Jan Broberg Foundation
Hi, I’m Makayla. I’m a writer, advocate, therapeutic foster parent, and communications professional with a deep passion for helping survivors, children, and families feel seen, supported, and empowered.
I currently serve as the Senior Communications Fellow for the National Grange and as the Newsletter Director and Donor Relations Manager for the Jan Broberg Foundation, where I help lead communication efforts focused on survivor support, outreach, storytelling, and community connection.
My background includes healthcare, advocacy, foster care, and trauma-informed support. Before transitioning into nonprofit and communications work full time, I earned my degree in Respiratory Therapy and worked in hospitals caring for patients and families during some of their most vulnerable moments.
I also volunteered with Day One as a hospital advocate, supporting individuals who had experienced sexual assault during the hospital process; helping survivors feel less alone during incredibly difficult moments and connecting them with resources and support they may need after leaving the hospital.
In addition to my work with survivor advocacy, I work closely with organizations supporting Deaf and Hard of Hearing children and families, including Hands & Voices and EHDI Rhode Island. Much of my work focuses on building stronger communities through education, connection, and compassion.
I’m currently pursuing a degree in psychology with the long-term goal of becoming a therapist. My experiences, both personal and professional, have strengthened my passion for trauma-informed care and survivor-centered healing.
I’m also a mom to five incredible children, including children on the autism spectrum, and many of the projects I create are inspired by the importance of safe spaces, creativity, healing, and belonging.
I am so grateful to be here, and I can’t wait to see where this journey leads for both myself and all of you. I hope to meet you all in the Survivor Circle.
